PSG midfielder Marquinhos says Neymar’s actions were pre-meditated, admitting that a fellow countryman is not one to avoid any potential confrontations. “He likes that. Neymar is not just a football player, he is not afraid and always responds to provocations,” the 25-year-old said during an interview with YouTube channel Desimpedidos. “After his goal, I asked him if he had taken everything out. He warned me, I told him to wait until the end of the match, but he told me to leave it and not to stop it.” UEFA issued PSG with a formal warning for “unsportsmanlike conduct” after the match, but the club avoided a fine. read also:How Haaland, Kane are delaying Man Utd’s decision on Ighalo Tuchel’s side are now within sight of a maiden Champions League triumph, but it is not yet known whether it will be safe for the current season to resume amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis which has seen all major leagues and competitions shut down for the foreseeable future. FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail分享 The two sides were drawn against each other in the last 16 of this season’s competition, with the first leg taking place at Westfalenstadion on February 18. Dortmund secured a 2-1 victory in front of their own supporters thanks to a superb brace from Haaland, who celebrated scoring by adopting a meditation pose on the side of the pitch. Neymar, who scored PSG’s only goal of the game, was motivated for revenge in the return leg in Paris, particularly after a photo emerged on social media of Haaland in Paris with the caption: “My city, not yours.” The Brazil international inspired an impressive turnaround for Thomas Tuchel’s men at Parc des Princes on March 11, opening the scoring in a match which was played behind closed doors due to the rising number of coronavirus cases across Europe at the time. Neymar imitated Haaland’s celebration for the cameras, and PSG went on to book their place in the quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win after Juan Bernat doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. The French champions celebrated wildly after the final whistle despite the absence of fans in the stadium, and Neymar led the entire squad in a mass-group photo copying Haaland’s pose once again. Neymar planned to mock Erling Haaland after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund in advance, according to Marquinhos.last_img read more

Trash service seeks residential rate hike

LA MIRADA – The city’s trash hauler asked the council Tuesday for a $5.04 annual increase in its rate for residents, citing a 7.8 percent increase at the Puente Hills Landfill. The request from Consolidated Disposal Service for a monthly increase from $16.02 to $16.44 comes at an unusual time since the company typically asks for an increase in the middle of the year. But the landfill’s increase took effect on Jan. 1. Richard Fierro, director of community affairs for Consolidated told the La Mirada City Council that his company can’t wait six months for the extra money as they did in 2005. “For six months, we didn’t get paid for the increase,” Fierro said. “This year, instead of waiting until July we’re requesting that the rate increase become effective Jan. 1.” The council will hold a public hearing at its 6:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting, when it will make its decision. The County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County is raising its rates in part to pay for the Mesquite Regional Landfill in Imperial County, said John Gulledge, head of its Solid Waste Department. “It’s directly related to the waste-by-rail program,” Gulledge said. The districts plan to ship trash by railroad to the landfill, beginning in 2010. The Puente Hills Landfill is scheduled to close in November 2013. Another rate increase is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2007. Those rate increases won’t affect Whittier residents because their trash is taken to the city’s landfill. And in Santa Fe Springs, Consolidated must wait until June to ask for a rate increase. La Mirada city officials said they aren’t happy about the mid-year request, but there may be nothing they can do about it. City Manager Andrea Travis said that Consolidated knew about the fee increase for more than a year. “We should have taken action (last July) and residents would have had a lot of time to know about it,” Travis said. But even if they’re unhappy, the council will have no choice but to approve the rate increase, Councilman Hal Malkin said. “We have a contract and it calls for certain things,” he said. “We pay for (landfill) fees.” Malkin said he also is unhappy about the rising trash rates. “We used to be at the very bottom,” he said, referring to a comparison with other cities. “Now we’re inching toward the top.” In a survey of 15 cities, La Mirada has the ninth lowest rate. But Councilman Steve Jones said La Mirada is one of two cities that gives seniors citizens a discount. Under the new rate, they would pay $9.88 monthly. Prep football full of surprises

first_img Yes, coaching (Brian Walsh is in his first season as his alma mater St. Anthony’s head coach, and Calvin Bryant has only been Compton’s head coach for two years) can make a significant difference on a football program’s fortunes. Moore football stuff OK, raise your hand if, a month ago, you thought there was a decent chance that the St. Anthony and Compton High school football teams a combined 1-19 in 2004 would open their respective seasons going 4-0. And keep that right arm pointed upward if, prior to the start of the season, you had a hunch that the Friday night Compton at Dominguez contest would prove to be the area’s most intriguing matchup in the second weekend of October. Uh, yeah. … The Bruins’ defense will face the most challenging offense on its schedule so far when UCLA plays host to Cal Saturday evening in the Rose Bowl. And the Trojans, after punching out Arizona Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum, still have dates at Notre Dame (Oct. 15) and in Berkeley (Nov. 12) that loom as potential streak busters. Stunning college score of this past weekend: Penn State 44, (then) No. 18 Minnesota 14. So much for Joe Paterno hanging it up anytime soon. Orange Lutheran’s athletic programs move into the Serra League beginning in the 2006-07 school year and that’s got to make the schools in the league (the Empire) down-right giddy with the Lancers’ departure. The move will have a major impact on CIF Southern Section Division I football, for sure. The Lancers, who will have to settle for a second consecutive Division VI title in December, have knocked off Mater Dei, Santa Margarita and Crenshaw and could be the second-best team in the Southern Section this season. The best? It’s the club that resides in Mission Viejo. A sportswriter knows he really is getting old when he’s in a group having dinner with the Moore League football coaches and he realizes that he covered three of them Raul Lara (Poly), Scott Meyer (Jordan), and Marcus Turner (Cabrillo) when they were players for Poly, Wilson and Jordan, respectively. Yikes. Even if Adrian Peterson can’t lug the pigskin (dig the football terminology) for Oklahoma Saturday, I still kind of like the Sooners’ chances to upset Texas. Basketball stuff Spencer Hawes is expected to announce at a press conference at Seattle Prep High today that he will sign a national letter of intent with the University of Washington next month after narrowing his choices to the Huskies, North Carolina and Stanford. The 6-foot-11 Hawes is one of the two best prospects (along with Greg Oden of Lawrence North High in Indianapolis) in the national prep class of 2006. His impact on the Pacific-10 Conference and national scenes in his freshman and, likely, only season of college hoops will be immense. He could have the same caliber of impact on Lorenzo Romar’s program in 2006-07 that Carmelo Anthony had on Syracuse in 2002-03. For those with short memories, Anthony led the Orange (then called the Orangemen) to a national title in New Orleans that season. Sophomore forward Josh Shipp is expected to be out of action for eight to 12 weeks after undergoing hip surgery last week. But UCLA is much better equipped to handle the loss of one of its three best players (along with classmates Arron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar) now than it would have been in the first two seasons with Ben Howland as its coach. The Bruins have a multitude of options to turn to in order to fill in for Shipp, including senior Cedric Bozeman (sidelined last season after suffering a torn ACL) and freshmen Mike Roll and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. They could also slide Afflalo into Shipp’s spot and have another freshman, Darren Collison, join Farmar in the backcourt. All that being said … the Bruins will be a better team once Shipp is back on the floor. If you’re so inclined, there’s enough high school basketball action on tap this weekend to keep you from having to watch football or the Major League Playoffs. The fifth Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Southern California Basketball Academy in Cypress. Many of the better ninth-and 10th-graders in the West, including the usual suspects Brandon Jennings (Dominguez), DeMar DeRozan (Compton), Larry Drew (Taft), Jrue Holiday (Campbell Hall), Troy Guillenwater (Fremont) and twin freshmen David and Travis Wear (Mater Dei) are expected to participate. The Cerritos College Winter League, with hefty representation from Moore, San Gabriel and Suburban League schools, is being held on Saturdays, beginning at 9 a.m. And Cal State Dominguez Hills will play host Sunday to the 4th Southern California Competition Clinic from noon to 5 p.m. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. You’re all set!center_img My size 11’s are still firmly planted on that USC bandwagon, even with as poorly as the Trojans played in the first half at Arizona State Saturday. But they’ll have to clean up their first-half act, considerably, if they are going to depart South Bend on Oct. 15 with a 28-game winning streak. I finally saw that Bud Light commercial the one where the real estate agent is showing the couple the rundown house during ABC’s USC-ASU broadcast Saturday. A “beer tree” man, who thinks of those things? Is it way too early to contemplate the likelihood of USC and UCLA hooking up with 11-0 and 10-0 records at the Coliseum on Dec. 3? last_img read more

Higuain made his competitive Rossoneri debut but made little impact

Pochettino Tottenham isnt ready for the title yet

first_imgAfter taking over Manchester City’s second place in the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino still thinks Tottenham isn’t ready for the title yet.Christmas arrived just in time for Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino, as they took the second place from a Manchester City side that has been wobbling in the last two matches and given away the top spot of the Premier League in the span of just one week. The hype around Spurs has become even more interesting once you realize that they are actually playing with no new players since last season, they have produced two impressive performances in which they have scored 11 goals and proved that they really do have one of the most complete squads in European football. But as it usually happens with a manager like Pochettino, he doesn’t want the players to get too relaxed this early in the season as there is still at least four more months of competition and the most defining part of the tournament doesn’t happen until the month of May.Pochettino doesn’t feel like Tottenham Hotspur is ready to take the challenge of being considered a title contender, he is convinced they are still far from the achievements that other Premier League clubs have accomplished so far and he isn’t certain his squad will hold at the top for the rest of the season.Mauricio Pochettino explains how Spurs have now evolved in to genuine Premier League title contenders:✍️ “We didn’t complain about signings”🏟 “We didn’t complain about the stadium”📆 “We didn’t complain about the fixtures”[@HaytersTV]#THFC #COYSpic.twitter.com/JoSM4CUqrG— Last Word On Spurs🎙 (@LastWordOnSpurs) December 27, 2018“We are in a very good position. I think we are in a position that the team deserves to be,” Pochettino told a news conference via Four Four Two.“But another thing is to be a real contender at the end of the season. We need to show that we can be consistent throughout the whole of the season.”“I think Manchester City have shown in the past they can be real contenders because they won the last Premier League, and of course Liverpool make an unbelievable investment and they are doing well and they are at the top of the table.”Harry Maguire, Manchester UnitedLiverpool legend Nicol slams Harry Maguire’s Man United form Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Steve Nicol believes Harry Maguire has made some “horrendous mistakes” recently, and has failed to find his best form since joining Manchester United.“Of course, I think these two teams are more realistic [to be] thinking at the end of the season that they are going to be contenders.”“We are there because we have the belief and we are working so hard and of course we have the quality. If not, it’s so difficult to be in the position we are today.”“We are still a question mark. If we are capable of being consistent for the whole season like the first half of the season, then we can talk about fighting for big things,” he added.”We will see if we are capable during the whole season to be consistent like in the first half of the season. Then we can talk that we can fight for big things.”Mauricio Pochettino assessesTottenham’s title chances: https://t.co/fnKSJLfYbK pic.twitter.com/uEbXxJAAmZ— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) December 27, 2018Now that we know Mauricio Pochettino wants to take things on a day-to-day basis, we can already assume that the players are fully focused on the final match of 2018 against Wolverhampton. The Wolves are one of the most competitive squads in the Premier League this season, they have already managed to upset Chelsea earlier this month and they are a serious threat to Tottenham Hotspur for next Saturday’s match at Wembley Stadium. The Argentine manager already stated that he can’t wait to play at the new stadium, but a bit more time has to go by in order to get that stadium ready.Tottenham Hotspur is currently in second place of the Premier League behind leaders Liverpool, their last victory against AFC Bournemouth helped them surpass Manchester City after Guardiola’s side shockingly lost their second match in a row against Leicester City at King Power Stadium, a match that was also on Boxing Day.EL TOTTENHAM, DE POCHETTINO! pic.twitter.com/YSCBvy4TWd— Cantina deporte (@cantinadeportee) December 24, 2018How far do you think Tottenham Hotspur will make in the current Premier League season?
